On the eastern side of India, in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, there is a town near Rajahmundry called Pithapuram. In olden times it was called Srī Pīthikapuram. Pura means the village, the town or habitat. Srī means the Mother of Wisdom, of Splendour, and of Power. Srī Pīthika means the place related to the Mother. In this place Lord Dattatreya took birth in the year 1320. It is him whom we call Srīpāda Srīvallabha.
